This article provides a guide on how to upload and insert images into WordPress posts. It starts by explaining the process of uploading images through the Add Media tab, selecting the image from the Media Library, and inserting it into the post. It also includes information on filtering images and adding attributes such as title, caption, alt text, and description. The article emphasizes the importance of these attributes for SEO purposes. Lastly, it suggests leaving the attributes as default initially and then editing them after inserting the images into the article.

In the previous article, I helped you adjust the file upload settings for your media needs. Now, let’s shift our focus to uploading and inserting images into your content.

Upload Image

To begin, navigate to the Add Media tab and choose Upload Files to either select images or drag and drop them.

WordPress will take you to the Media Library tab where you can monitor the upload progress. Once all images are uploaded, you can select the desired image and click Insert into post to add it.

WordPress also offers filtering options, such as:

  • All media items: All uploaded files
  • Uploaded to this post: Files uploaded in this post
  • Images: Show only image files
  • Audio: Show only audio files
  • Video: Show only video files
  • Unattached: Media files not currently attached to any articles

You can further organize images by time as well.

Add attributes to images

The right column allows you to add HTML tags like title, caption, and alt text, which are crucial for SEO purposes.

Within the image information section, you can find details such as file name, upload date, image size, and more. You can also edit or delete photos as needed.

Other attributes like image title, caption, alt text (containing SEO keywords), description, alignment, link options, and image size can be customized to enhance your content.

I typically recommend inserting images first and then tweaking these attributes later. In the upcoming article, I’ll delve into editing these tags further.
