Installing WordPress manually on cPanel hosting: Part 1 tutorial

Hướng dẫn cài đặt WordPress thủ công trên hosting cPanel Phần 3

This article provides a guide on how to download, upload, and unzip WordPress source code to hosting with cpanel in order to prepare for creating a mysql and installing WordPress. The process is similar for VPS, directadmin, or installing on localhost. The article emphasizes the importance of operating directly on hosting for faster setup without the need to transfer and reconfigure. It details the steps to download WordPress, upload it to hosting, and unzip the files in the root directory. The next steps involve creating a database and completing the installation process. The article mentions that future articles will cover additional installation steps.

In this article, I’ll walk you through the process of downloading, uploading, and unzipping the WordPress source code on your hosting with cPanel to prepare for MySQL setup and WordPress installation. If you’re using VPS, directadmin, or installing on localhost, the process remains quite similar. Many guides recommend installing from localhost and then transferring to hosting, but in my opinion, operating directly on hosting is quicker and eliminates the need for transfers and reconfigurations.

Download WordPress

To begin, download WordPress from wordpress.org, making sure to get the latest version available, which at the time of writing is 4.5.3. Once you download the file, named "wordpress-4.5.3.zip", you’ll upload it to your hosting and proceed to unzip it.

Upload to Hosting

When uploading, remember to upload the entire zip file and then utilize the decompression function in cPanel or on your VPS to extract the contents. Uploading the zip file directly is faster and less likely to miss any files compared to uploading multiple files individually. Access cPanel on your hosting, navigate to the "File Manager" section under "Files", then choose the "Web Root" directory to initiate the upload process.

Unzip the File

With the WordPress file now on your hosting, you can proceed to unzip it. Extract the contents of the zip file and move all files from the extracted WordPress folder to the root directory to ensure your website is accessible without an additional folder in the URL.

After moving the files, you can safely delete the extracted WordPress folder and the zip file, leaving you with the necessary files for the installation. Test your website by entering the web address in your browser to confirm the installation process. If you encounter any issues, feel free to reach out for further guidance.

In this article, I’ve covered the downloading, uploading, and unzipping process. In the next installment, I’ll guide you through creating the database and completing the installation. If you’re familiar with hosting and FTP, this process should be straightforward – simply upload and unzip where you intend to install.
