In this article, three important blocks in WordPress are introduced: Format, Featured Image, and Excerpt. The Format block displays the type of post format, such as video or gallery, depending on the theme used. The Featured Image serves as a thumbnail for the article, displayed on category pages or the homepage. The Excerpt block allows for a descriptive text to be displayed on the homepage or category pages. These features vary depending on the theme used, with some themes not supporting certain blocks. The article emphasizes the importance of understanding and utilizing these blocks effectively for WordPress websites.

In this article, I will introduce 3 more blocks: Format, Featured Image, and Excerpt. To understand in detail, please follow.

Format will display the post format type. Each type of Format will have a separate display, such as video, gallery, etc. However, the format of the article depends a lot on the theme you use. Simple themes are often not very different from each other. Therefore, before choosing a theme, you should explore the types of Format to see if they meet your needs.

The types of Format include:

  • Standard
  • Aside
  • Image
  • Video
  • Quote
  • Link
  • Gallery
  • Status
  • Audio
  • Chat

Featured Image (post thumbnail) is the image that represents the article. It is displayed when you search for an article, visit a category, or browse the home page. The Post Thumbnail is the image shown next to the content on these pages.

To add a Featured Image, in the Featured Image block, choose Set featured image. You can then upload a new image or select an existing one to use as the post thumbnail.

Excerpt is similar to Featured Image, but it is descriptive text for the article that is displayed on the homepage or in categories.

To activate Excerpt, go to Screen Options and select Excerpt. A box will appear below the edit section for you to enter the content you want to display.

After discussing these 3 blocks, in the next article, I will present the settings for the remaining blocks.
